Marine Mammal Conservancy
Friday June 3rd to Sunday June 5th I traveled to Key Largo, Fl to do my service learning hours. A lady from work sent me an email seeing if I was interested in this volunteer opportunity. Her sister did it a few days before and absolutely loved the experience. I love marine mammals and thought it would be a nice weekend away in the beautiful Florida Keys. When we arrived there on Friday afternoon we were prompted on what we were going to be doing, we were given directions and told where the wet suits and footwear was located. 3 pilots whales resided at this conservancy. 300, 301, and 302 were their names. R300 is still in critical condition and still fighting a tough case of pneumonia. R302 is in guarded condition and they continue to work on her severe C-curvature problems. R301 is in stable condition and is swimming on her own several hours each day. It was a very interesting few days and I learned a lot about whales I never knew. For example, I didn't have any idea that whales could get sun-burned!! Everyone was very nice and it was definitely worth all my time.
